Most artists get famous because they have beautiful voices, though sometimes they have beautiful faces to match their talent. Alina Baraz is definitely one of those artists. When you see her for the first time, it seems unfair that someone could be blessed with that much beauty and that much talent.

It’s just not fair! But we have to put our jealousy aside because she just makes such great music. It’s fluid, almost genre-less, and reminds us of a mix between Halsey and Ellie Goulding. Hopefully, Alina would be happy with that comparison.

Her songs have the dreamy vocals that both of the above artists are known for, as well as heartfelt or raw lyrics. You can chill out on the couch to her music or sing along with it in the car with your friends. If we had to genre-ize it, we’d say it’s Chillstep R&B. Do you agree?

Her Career

Alina has always been beautiful and musically oriented. She grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, though she left to pursue music when she was young. When she first moved out to LA, she started working with producers on other people’s music. It wasn’t until 2013, when she started to create for herself, that she got the attention she deserved.

Urban Flora and The Color of You

Baraz’s first big project was Urban Flora, which she recorded with Galimatias, a Danish EDM producer. That eight-track album did well in the EDM scene but didn’t break boundaries. Her first genre-crossing hit was with R&B crooner, Khalid. She worked with him on “Electric” in 2017. That song did well enough to get her radio play and allow her to put out a debut album. We love everything that comes from this artist, including her cerebral live shows.
