Alex G Tickets
It’s hard to describe Alex G, or Sandy, as some people know him as. You could start by using his full name, Alex Giannascoli, but people don’t know that either. His fans are made up of some very niche music supporters, though their numbers grow every year. And whether you learned about Alex/Sandy from the internet or his time working with Frank Ocean, it’s hard not to be a fan.
But where did he come from? And where will he go? That all remains to be seen. Learn more about this puzzling, turbulent, and avant-garde musician and enigma, below.
Early Life
Alex grew up in Pennsylvania, listening to music by new-wave jazz artists like Elliot Smith. He started songwriting when he was young, and that continued through his short stint at Temple University.
While he was at college, he would play in small venues and on campus, which he did just for fun – until he got discovered by Mat Cothran. Talent recognized talent, and Mat helped him sign with Orchid Tapes – an indie label out of New York. With the record contract under his belt, he decided to drop out of college and dedicate his life to music full time.
DSU and Beyond
Alex’s first record was DSU, a very authentic version of his music. He recorded it in a home studio, and it remains a great example of what Alex’s music is, at its core. His more recent albums, like Rocket, Trick, and Beach Music, are all more polished and creative but remain true to his original sound. And though he’s released his music, he is still mostly touring with other bands/acts. But with his fan base growing the way it is, we won’t be surprised when he announces a solo tour.
