About Petersen Events Center

Petersen Events Center

The Petersen Events Center is a sports and entertainment venue on the University of Pittsburgh campus. The venue opened in 2002 and serves as the home court for the Pittsburgh Panthers men’s and women’s basketball teams. Nicknamed “The Pete,” it has become known as one of the best and most intimidating environments in college basketball, largely thanks to the Pitt student section, which is known as the Oakland Zoo. For basketball games, the capacity of the Petersen Events Center is just over 12,500 fans.

Where are the Best Places to Sit at the Petersen Events Center

During basketball games at the Petersen Events Center, the Oakland Zoo typically has the best seats in the house. They sit on top of the court and help create an intimidating atmosphere. However, sections 107-109 and 120-122 are also located in the lower level of the arena and close to the court. Sections 108 and 121, in particular, are close to mid-court. If you prefer to sit opposite of the student section, look for tickets in sections 120-122. In the upper level of the arena, sections 220-222 and 207-209 should offer the best view of the court.

Tips for Visiting the Petersen Events Center

Parking can be difficult at the Petersen Events Center because of its location within the city of Pittsburgh. Most of the public parking areas are several blocks from the arena and require an uphill walk. While there are drop-off locations and shuttle service on game days, it’s best to give yourself a little extra time before the game. It also doesn’t hurt to have a few extra moments to admire the magnificent lobby of the Petersen Events Center and visit the Pitt Hall of Fame.

Food to Try at the Petersen Events Center

The lobby of the Petersen Events Center includes a food court that’s open for students year-round. The current restaurants in the food court include Burrito Bowl, Chick-fil-A, Shake Smart, and Steel City Subs + Sushi. There is also a variety of concession stands along the concourse that serve common items like hot dogs and chicken sandwiches, as well as local delicacies like kielbasa, sausages, and Wienerschnitzel.
