My Fair Lady Tickets
Wouldn’t it be lover-ly to see the play My Fair Lady in person? Absolutely. And while you can’t see it with the faces from the film, as both Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison have passed on, the Broadway cast does the roles justice. The play turned musical turned film has won eight Oscars and at least one Tony. It’s family-friendly, critically acclaimed and a long-time best seller. Not sure what you’re in for or need to forward this to a friend to get them hyped up? Here’s a quick synopsis...
My Fair Lady Story
Two academic men are walking through a garden when they come upon a Cockney woman (uneducated with a strong accent) selling flowers. One man comments that he could make her “presentable” and raise her status just through teaching her to speak properly.
This woman, Eliza Dolittle, overhears and somewhat dares him to do it. And so – Henry Higgins takes on the task of educating this woman. He becomes part manner coach, part speech therapist, and part fashion consultant in the weeks that come. Eliza learns to dance, to speak well, and proves she can hold her own in the stuffy English high-society.
Some would say that the movie Pretty Woman was loosely based on this tale, and if you know that movie, you can guess what happens between Eliza and Higgins. If not, you’ll have to watch and see.
The Rain in Spain
One of the most famous lines from the movie and film is “The rain in Spain stays mainly in the plains”. It’s almost impossible to come away from the musical without repeating this phrase to yourself immediately or days later. Culturally educate yourself with this Pygmaleion-based tale set to music that will have you appreciating what you have while giving you a reason to dress up.
