About The Armory

The Armory

The Armory is a music and entertainment venue in downtown Minneapolis. It was originally built in the 1930s for the Minnesota National Guard and later served as the home of the NBA’s Minneapolis Lakers. It has long been used for concerts and various civic events. The Armory has even been used to film famous music videos, including Prince’s “1999.” In 1985, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places. For concerts and other events, the Armory has a capacity of 8,400 people.

Where are the Best Places to Sit at the Minneapolis Armory

For concerts at the Minneapolis Armory, a majority of the tickets are general admission on the floor. This means your position during the show typically depends on how early or late you arrive at the venue. Along the sides of the venue, there are balcony seats and premium Club Level seats. However, this type of seating is often geared toward larger parties and usually requires speaking directly to the venue to reserve a place.

Tips for Visiting the Minneapolis Armory

Arriving early for a show at the Minneapolis Armory is usually a good idea. Since the stage isn’t too high up, seeing the performer can be difficult if you don’t position yourself close to the stage. Regular visitors know this, which is why people often start lining up for shows a few hours in advance. Getting through security and the coat check at some shows can also take time. So, to beat the rush and grab a good view of the stage it usually requires arriving early.

Food to Try at the Minneapolis Armory

People sitting in premium or club sections should have access to a sizable menu. However, visitors with a general admission ticket are limited to a snack bar. Anyone with a GA ticket shouldn’t plan on getting something substantial to eat at the Minneapolis Armory. However, a few blocks west of the venue is a cluster of dining options. Downtown Minneapolis has no shortage of quality restaurants, so it should be easy to find a place to eat before or after a show at the Armory.
