About Subaru Park

Talen Energy Stadium

Just a hop, skip, and jump outside of Philadelphia, the Talen Energy Stadium is a soccer-specific stadium that sits right on the shores of the Delaware River. With a capacity of more than 18,000 for soccer matches and more than 26,000 for concert events, it’s the perfect venue for sports entertainment in southeastern Pennsylvania.

The History of Talen Energy Stadium

Constructed specifically for the Philadelphia Union, the local MLS team, the origins of Talen Energy Stadium date back to 2006. The city of Chester was selected after proposals were put in to revitalize the region with a number of mixed-use buildings like apartment complexes, townhouses, and office/commercial space nearby. Construction began in 2008, with delays leading to the Union playing their first game at Lincoln Field in Philly before their new digs were ready. The wait seemed to be worth it, though, as response to the new stadium has been massive, with Union officials stating they plan to push capacity to 27,000 after a number of construction phases to keep up with rampant demand.

What’s So Great About Talen Energy Stadium Events?

Talen Energy Stadium is one of the few soccer-specific stadiums that literally had fans involved in its construction. The Sons of Ben, Union’s rabid fan base (named for Philly native Ben Franklin), have their own entrance and 2,000-seat area at the southeast end of the arena. Other amenities like cantilevered roofs, a full-service restaurant and club, dozens of luxury suites, and even a concert stage are all part of this venue. Maybe one day they might even use that last one!
