About PPL Center

PPL Center

The PPL Center is a sports and entertainment arena that’s located in Allentown, Pennsylvania. The venue first opened in 2014 and serves as the home arena for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the AHL. It has also hosted arena football, college hockey, professional bull riding, and countless concerts and other performances, including Disney on Ice, Cirque du Soleil, and the Harlem Globetrotters. For sporting events, the PPL Center has a capacity of over 8,400 fans while the capacity for concerts is 10,500.

Where are the Best Places to Sit at the PPL Center

For sporting events, sections 104, 105, 115, and 116 will put you as close to the action as possible. However, sitting toward the back of these sections will ensure a better overall view of the playing surface. Section 204 also provides a good vantage point that’s near center ice for hockey games. For concerts, floor seats sometimes offer the best chance to be close to the stage. Otherwise, sections 102, 103, 117, and 118 will get you close to the stage, albeit from the side. For a straight-ahead view of the stage from further back, sections 109-111 and 210 are the best options.

Tips for Visiting the PPL Center

Arriving early is usually a good idea for events at the PPL Center. While there are many parking garages and surface lots in downtown Allentown, they tend to fill up quickly when there is an event. Also, while there are plenty of dining options downtown, the top restaurants fill up quickly if you don’t have a reservation. If you want to keep your pre-game dining options open, try to get downtown early to beat the crowds.

Food to Try at the PPL Center

Of course, there are plenty of quality dining options available inside the arena. For starters, Hot Dog Nation has several varieties, including the Mac & Cheese Dog, Chili Cheese Dog, Nacho Dog, and New York Dog. Likewise, Burger Prime has several specialty burgers, including the Jalapeño Cheddar Burger and the BBQ Burger, not to mention Poutine. Plus, since Allentown is so close to Philadelphia, there are multiple varieties of cheesesteaks at Vince’s Cheesesteaks. In addition to the classic cheesesteak, there are mushroom and Buffalo varieties. Meanwhile, Mozzarella’s features a Chicken Parm sandwich and a Meatball sandwich. Finally, the Street Food Truck has a few more sophisticated options, most notably the Roasted Chickpea Vegetable Bowl and the Sesame Crusted Watermelon Rice Bowl.
