About Mariah Carey
Mariah Carey Tickets
When it comes to range, there’s perhaps no one in the world more famous and successful than Mariah Carey. She can pretty much hit any note feasible to the human vocal cords, and hold it there too. How did she develop such a range? Part of it is genetic, we’re sure, but it’s also trained. Carey had the privilege of being born to a mother who was both an opera singer and a voice coach. That means that Mariah had private lessons her entire life, which gave her the edge to make it big. And make it big she did. She has two Grammy awards and countless albums, with no plans to retire soon.
A Love for Many Genres
As we’ve already said, Mariah could have as many private lessons with her mother as she wanted growing up. She could have grown up uninterested in singing in performing, but that’s not how the cookie crumbled. Instead, she used her mother’s guidance and born talent to outperform others at the performance-arts based schools she went to throughout the years. She sang in recitals, at church, and anywhere she could get people to listen – including New York City.
New York, New York
While Mariah was known well locally, she wanted bigger things for her career. So she set out for New York in 1987, with her demo tape in hand. It managed to make its way to Tommy Mottola, of Columbia Records in 1988, and he signed her the same year.
With her new studio access and record deal, she put out her first album, Mariah Carey, in 1990. It did well enough to earn her a Grammy for Best New Artist in the following year. With that success, she rode the wave of her fame and vocal range, releasing four new albums in the next five years.
The late ’90s would prove difficult for the multi-talented star, with a divorce and a diagnosis of Bi-polar disorder, but she made a full recovery with time. She used her troubles as ammunition to write multiple new albums, including a follow up to her rendition of Christmas songs, which no Macy’s Day parade is without. She’s due for a new album soon, that is if she ever retires from her already-successful stint in Vegas.
