The History of George M. Steinbrenner Field

Built in 1996, this venue was originally known simply as Legends Field up until it became clear that Yankees owner George Steinbrenner was in ailing health. It was then that it was renamed in his honor. There’s a statue of Steinbrenner, as is fitting, right in front of the ballpark to honor him.

Despite its relatively young age, Steinbrenner Field received a massive facelift in 2016-2017 with an investment of $40 million to renovate the facility. New seats, roof replacements, better entry plazas, and expanded outfield concourses were all taken care of during this reno, ensuring this ball field remains thoroughly modern for decades to come.
