About Danforth Music Hall

Danforth Music Hall

The Danforth Music Hall is a music venue in Toronto. The venue gets its name from being located in Danforth Avenue in the Riverdale neighborhood of Toronto, which is a few miles northeast of downtown. It first opened as a movie theatre called Allen Danforth’s Theatre in 1919 and has gone by several names in over a century of operating. In 1985, the Danforth Music Hall was designated as a property of historic interest. For concerts, the Danforth Music Hall has a capacity of 1,427 guests, including 1,145 reserved seats.

Where are the Best Places to Sit at the Danforth Music Hall

There are three areas of seating at the Danforth Music Hall. The Orchestra Section is the lowest level and is located closest to the stage. Depending on the show, there will either be chairs set up or it will be general admission and an open layout. The second level of the venue is where you’ll find the Mezzanine Section and the Balcony. However, the theatre is small enough that even Balcony seats feel close to the stage.

Tips for Visiting the Danforth Music Hall

For events at the Danforth Music Hall, keep in mind that all tickets in the Mezzanine Section and Balcony come with assigned seats, while the Orchestra Section could be general admission. Those with an assigned seat can’t go to the general admission area and vise versa. If you have a general admission ticket, consider arriving early to get a good spot. You should also plan to arrive early if you plan on checking your coat, which is available on the main floor but can have limited space availability.

Food to Try at the Danforth Music Hall

Food options at the Danforth Music Hall are somewhat limited. As a former movie theatre, it’s appropriate that the venue sells hot dogs, popcorn, and candy but not much else. There is also a cash bar that sells beer, wine, and other alcoholic drinks to guests who are 19 or older. On the bright side, Danforth Avenue has several quality restaurants located within a couple of blocks of the Danforth Music Hall.
