About Agganis Arena

Agganis Arena

A multi-purpose indoor arena located right smack dab on the campus of Boston University right off Commonwealth Avenue, Agganis Arena has the happy distinction of being a Boston sports venue that’s not Fenway Park. This 7,200-seat arena can host basketball and hockey as well as act as a theater, concert, and event space for local, regional, or national events with ease.

The History of the Agganis Arena

Breaking ground in 2003 and opening its doors for the first time in 2005, the arena was named after Henry Agganis, an alumnus of the school who achieved fame as a Red Sox player before he died tragically at a young age from a pulmonary embolism at the young age of 26. Built to provide an alternative sports arena for the aging Walter Brown Arena, the venue itself was constructed right in the middle of the university’s student life center, and it’s surrounded by dormitories and is near BU’s Fitness and Recreation Center.

What’s So Great About Agganis Arena Events?

With a capacity of just over 7,000, Agganis Arena is the perfect-sized crowd for just about any event. Whether it’s an NCAA ice hockey final, a concert event, or anything else, you’ve got an intimate setting that’s not so big that you feel lost in the crowd but not so small that you feel like you’re squeezing into a sardine can. Plus, it’s location on the Boston outskirts make getting there and back easy as ordering tickets for your event online!
