About Panthers vs. Saints

Saints vs Panthers Tickets

When the Carolina Panthers joined the NFL in 1995, they didn’t have many natural rivals. There just aren’t a lot of NFL franchises in the southeast, essentially putting the Panthers on an island in the middle of North Carolina. However, slowly but surely, the Panthers have developed healthy rivalries with all of their NFC South foes, including the New Orleans Saints, whose sudden move from futility to favorite has recently made it easier for them to forge rivalries with other teams.

Saints vs Panthers

Things between the Saints and Panthers started off innocently enough. Carolina won a division title in their second season but otherwise wasn’t that competitive for their first decade of existence. The Saints, meanwhile, were a bottom feeder in the NFL until Sean Payton arrived in 2006 and started to turn things around. It was around this time that both the Panthers and Saints started to compete for NFC South supremacy, causing their rivalry to take off.

In the years to follow, the intensity level of Saints vs Panthers games increased exponentially. Games between the two teams became more physical, bordering on chippy. Carolina quarterback Cam Newton was even one of the quarterbacks the Saints allegedly targeted in their infamous Bounty Gate scandal. Naturally, the Bounty Gate scandal helped take the hatred between the teams to the next level. The rivalry then reached new heights in 2017 when the Panthers met the Saints in the playoffs. After New Orleans won both regular-season meetings, they beat the Panthers for a third time in the Wild Card Round, advancing in the playoffs and bringing the all-time series between the two teams to a near stalemate. In other words, the stage is set for this bitter rivalry to continue for many years to come.
