About Nets vs. Spurs

Spurs vs Nets Tickets

Unless you’re a historian of basketball, you may not know about the old rivalry between the San Antonio Spurs and the Brooklyn Nets. The rivalry dates back to the ABA days of the 1970s and was as intense as any other rivalry of that era. While things may have cooled down in recent years, the history between the Spurs and Nets can’t be ignored, making their two-yearly meetings a little more special than an ordinary NBA game.

Spurs vs Nets

The Spurs and Nets met in the 1976 ABA Semifinals. The Nets had a chance to clinch the series in Game 6. However, there was so much bad blood for Rich Jones, who was traded from the Spurs to the Nets the previous year, that he stayed in the hotel and didn’t play in Game 6. Alas, the Nets won Game 7 and went on to win the ABA title for the second time in three years. Over a quarter-century later, the Spurs and Nets had a reunion in the NBA Finals, this time with San Antonio coming out on top in six games with the Nets losing in the Finals for the second straight year.

Naturally, a lot has changed since the old days, including each team’s home arena. Following their move to Brooklyn in 2012, the Nets now play their home games at the Barclays Center, which has quickly become a fan favorite in the NBA for its majestic appearance on the outside and its amenities on the inside. Meanwhile, the Spurs have made their home at the AT&T Center in San Antonio since 2002. During that time, the Spurs have won a few championships, turning the arena into a fortress and one of the best home courts in the NBA.
