About Kenan Memorial Stadium

Kenan Memorial Stadium

Kenan Memorial Stadium is a college football stadium on the University of North Carolina campus in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The stadium opened in 1927 and is named after William R. Kenan Jr., a businessman and 1894 UNC graduate who helped to fund the building of the stadium. Naturally, the venue has received several renovations and gone through multiple expansions in its history, more than doubling in size. Today, football games at Kenan Memorial Stadium have a capacity of 50,500 fans.

Where are the Best Places to Sit at Kenan Memorial Stadium

The best seats for a football game at Kenen Memorial Stadium are in sections 105-107 and 124-126. Just keep in mind there are over 50 rows in these sections. Rows A-E are the best way to get as close to the field as possible, but rows AA to HH in those sections provide the best balance between being close to the field and being able to see the entire field. Likewise, sections 205-207 and 224-226 are located close to midfield in the second level of the section, providing a great bird’s-eye view of the entire field.

Tips for Visiting Kenan Memorial Stadium

For fans of tailgating, the Bell Tower Tailgating Area near the Morehead-Patterson Bell Tower is the best place to go before a game at Kenan Memorial Stadium. The bell tower is also where the team’s Victory Walk begins two and a half hours before kickoff. Other than tailgating, there are plenty of fun things to do before or after a game at Kenan Memorial Stadium. The venue is located in the middle of the UNC campus, meaning it’s close to the bars, restaurants, and shops on the famous Franklin Street. Chapel Hill also offers other landmarks, including the North Carolina Botanical Gardens, Morehead Planetarium, and Coker Arboretum.

Food to Try at Kenan Memorial Stadium

Even with plenty of food and tailgating options outside of Kenan Memorial Stadium, the concessions within the stadium offer plenty of options as well. The Backyard Bistro is the best place to go, as it features pork sandwiches, brisket sandwiches, Italian sausages, garlic fries, and more. The beef and chicken empanadas at Maku’s Empanadas are also an excellent option. The same is true of the Chronic Tacos stand, which offers tasty chicken, beef, and shrimp tacos.
