About Theatre of Living Arts

Theatre of Living Arts

The Theatre of Living Arts (TLA) is a concert venue on South Street in the Queen Village neighborhood of Philadelphia. The venue originally opened in 1908 and has undergone many renovations and iterations since then, at times serving as a prominent movie theater. Today, TLA is well-known for its acoustics and is considered one of the best concert venues in the country. However, the venue has a capacity of around only 1,000 guests for concerts.

Where are the Best Places to Sit at the Theatre of Living Arts

Most performances at the Theatre of Living Arts are general admission. Most shows are standing-room-only, meaning it’s best to arrive early if you want to be as close to the stage as possible. Premium seating is available at TLA as part of a membership program that comes with other benefits. However, accommodations for that need to be made directly with the venue prior to a show. Otherwise, general admission tickets are the only option.

Tips for Visiting the Theatre of Living Arts

If you would like to sit down during a show at the Theatre of Living Arts, the best option is to sit at a table near one of the two bars inside the venue. The catch is that claiming a table usually involves arriving early. However, sitting at a table will give you a good view of the show. Arriving early for a show at TLA is also wise because there is limited street parking in the neighborhood. It may be best to make arrangements at one of the public lots nearby ahead of time.

Food to Try at the Theatre of Living Arts

The two bars at the Theatre of Living Arts have food selections that are limited to popcorn and other snacks, in addition to serving both soft drinks and alcoholic beverages. However, there are more than a dozen restaurants located within three blocks of TLA for folks who want to eat before or after a show. Across the street from the venue is Ishkabibble’s, which is a cheesesteak counter. A few doors down from TLA is Copabanana, a Mexican-American restaurant. Finally, located just around the corner on South 4th Street is Alyan’s Middle Eastern & Mediterranean Restaurant.
