The History of Smoothie King Center

This multi-purpose indoor center opened its doors in 1999 with the capacity to hold 17,805 people. The first tenant of the Smoothie King Center was the New Orleans Brass Ice hockey team. But in 2002, the New Orleans Hornets arrived, and the center was renovated to allow both hockey and basketball games to be played at the center. Two years later in 2004, the New Orleans VooDoo of the AFL (Arena Football League) started playing at the center.

The Smoothie King Center hosts an array of sporting events. You’ll find basketball games, hockey, wrestling matches, MMA and boxing. Occasionally the Professional Bull Riders will come through to put on an amazing show of man against beast. For the most part, though, the Smoothie King Center is home to the New Orleans NBA team the Pelicans. But it will also host college basketball teams and concerts.
