About Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall

Assembly Hall

Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall is an indoor sports arena on the campus of Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, that primarily serves as the home court for the Indiana Hoosiers basketball team. The venue opened in 1971 and is often referred to as merely Assembly Hall. The court inside the arena is named after former coach Branch McCracken, who led the Hoosiers to national championships in 1940 and 1953. There were significant renovations made in 2015 to upgrade the facilities and the fan experience. For basketball games, Assembly Hall has a capacity of over 17,200 fans.

Where are the Best Places to Sit at Assembly Hall

For basketball games at Assembly Hall, sections 3, 4, 8, and 9 will put you closest to the action. More specifically, section four is directly behind the Indiana bench, while section 3 is behind the visiting bench. Of course, there is a limited number of seats in these sections. Outside of those court-side seats, sections C and D are the best places to sit, as these sections are close to mid-court and behind the team benches, opposite the student section. However, these sections have roughly 40 rows in them, so the first 10-15 rows in these sections will offer the best view of the court.

Tips for Visiting Assembly Hall

When going to Assembly Hall, make sure you enter through the south entrance of the arena. This is where you’ll find a collection of bronze statues of some of the greatest players in Indiana history, including Steve Alford and other members of the 1976 national championship team. There are also other pieces of memorabilia and history displayed in the arena, including the floor that used to be used at Assembly Hall. In fact, the south lobby of Assembly Hall is a great place for fans to learn more about the history and traditions of Indiana basketball.

Food to Try at Assembly Hall

In addition to the bars and restaurants in downtown Bloomington and near the Indiana campus, there are plenty of concession options inside Assembly Hall. The Polish sausages, footlong hot dogs, and boneless wings are all reliable options for fans who get hungry during games or want a full meal while at the arena. There is also pizza and great deals on snacks like pretzels, nachos, and popcorn.
