Moody Coliseum Events

Moody Coliseum is a sports and entertainment venue on the campus of SMU in Dallas, Texas. It opened in 1956 and IS the home venue for the SMU Mustangs basketball and volleyball teams. Originally known as SMU Coliseum, it was renamed in 1965 to honor William Lewis Moody Jr. In addition to sporting events, Moody Coliseum has also hosted prominent speakers and musicians, including the Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan. In 2014, the venue received a substantial renovation to improve the scoreboard, concourses, seating, lighting, and other features. For basketball games, Moody Coliseum has a capacity of 7,000 fans.

Where are the Best Places to Sit at Moody Coliseum

Outside of floor seats and suites, sections 104 and 112 are the best places to sit during a basketball game at Moody Coliseum. These sections are located as close to mid-court as possible. But because there are only a few rows in these sections, sections 204 and 212 are the next best options for fans who want to be close to the action and view the entire court. Meanwhile, section 111 is close to the court and located behind the SMU bench, while section 113 offers a similar view from behind the visiting team’s bench.

Tips for Visiting Moody Coliseum

Even if a basketball game is the main attraction, there are plenty of activities for fans to consider before and after events at Moody Coliseum. In addition to the lovely scenery of the campus, the Meadows Museum and George W. Bush Presidential Center are both located on the SMU campus and are worth checking out. The neighborhood surrounding the campus also has a great selection of bars, restaurants, and other businesses that are common in college towns, which is a good way to describe the feel of the SMU campus, which is a fair distance away from downtown Dallas.

Food to Try at Moody Coliseum

If the restaurants in downtown Dallas or the area around the SMU campus aren’t enough, Moody Coliseum also has some great concession options. It starts with Mi Cocina, which is a local establishment that also has a location inside Moody Coliseum. Outside of Mi Cocina, the featured item is the Red & Blue Burger, which is an all-beef patty with smoked bacon, blue cheese, and roasted pepper aioli on a brioche bun. It’s among the best burgers at any sports venue in Texas. Traditional options like pizza, pretzels, and nachos are also available at the concession stands inside Moody Coliseum.
