About Lyric Theatre

Lyric Theatre

The Lyric Theatre in New York City is a Broadway Theatre that’s located on 43rd Street in Manhattan. It opened in 1998 and was built on the site of the old Apollo and Lyric Theaters. Since opening, the Lyric Theatre has also been known as the Hilton Theatre, Foxwoods Theatre, and the Ford Center for the Performing Arts. Over the years, the theatre has hosted many Broadway musicals, including Jesus Christ Superstar, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Young Frankenstein, and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Following a recent renovation, the Lyric Theatre has a capacity of 1,622 guests.

Where are the Best Places to Sit at Lyric Theatre

Like most theaters, the Orchestra section is the best place to sit at the Lyric Theatre. It will place you as close to the stage as possible. Rows AA-J in the Orchestra are the closest to the stage while there is a separation between rows J and K. Also, the lower the seat number, the closer you will be to the center of the stage, so seats 1-12 in any row will have a centered view of the stage. If you don’t mind sitting a further from the stage, the balcony at the Lyric Theatre offers a good view of the performance from a distance. However, be aware that there are three sections in the balcony and the center section will provide the best view of the stage.

Tips for Visiting Lyric Theatre

Compared to other Broadway theaters, the Lyric Theatre has a deeper Orchestra section, so seats in the back rows are further back than other venues. This can make the Dress Circle and Balcony seats better options than the last few rows of the Orchestra. It’s also worth noting that there is no elevator to the Balcony. Guests who are uncomfortable walking upstairs should purchase tickets in the Orchestra or Dress Circle sections. Finally, keep in mind that tickets to two-part shows at the Lyric Theatre are sometimes sold separately, so double-check that you have tickets to both parts.

Food to Try at Lyric Theatre

There are four bars at the Lyric Theatre that serve beer, wine, cocktails, coffee, soda, and a variety of other drinks. The snack shop inside the theatre also offers fresh salads and sandwiches, as well as traditional theatre snacks like popcorn and candy. Visitors can also purchase access to the Ambassador Lounge, where guests will have access to table service and a private bar. There will also be a menu on each seat, allowing guests to order sandwiches, snacks, and drinks from the comfort of their seats prior to the start of the show.
