About the Iowa Football
Iowa Football Tickets
With all of the powerhouse programs taking up residence in the Big Ten, it's no secret that life in the conference can be unforgiving. However, despite playing in such a tough league, the Iowa Hawkeyes have managed to remain one of the most steady and consistent programs in the country. Cheap Iowa football tickets aren’t easy to find because the Hawkeyes are usually a good bet to field a competitive team year after year. Fans who somehow manage to get their hands on last-minute Iowa football tickets know that they’re going to watch a good team in a great atmosphere.
One of the Greats
Nowadays, Iowa is rarely if ever considered a national championship threat, but there was a time when the Hawkeyes were one of the best in the country. Iowa claims five football national championships in its history. The first two came during a pair of back-to-back undefeated seasons in 1921 and 1922. The Hawkeyes were also a powerhouse in the late 1950s, soon after they joined the Big Ten. Between 1956 and 1960, Iowa was 37-8-2 under Forest Evashevski with the NCAA recognizing national championships for the Hawkeyes in 1956, 1958, and 1960.
Fry and Ferentz
Iowa’s modern success in football has occurred under two long-term head coaches, Hayden Fry and Kirk Ferentz. Fry coached 20 seasons from 1979 to 1998, leading the Hawkeyes to three Big Ten titles, 14 bowl games, and 10 top-25 finishes. He was succeeded by Ferentz, who was 1-10 in his first season but has coached Iowa to a winning record in virtually every other season. His tenure has included Big Ten titles in 2002 and 2004 and no less than half a dozen seasons in which the Hawkeyes won 10 games or more.
