Super Bowl Memorabilia: Collectibles Every Fan Should Own
Surely, every NFL fan dreams about being able to watch their favorite team play in the Super Bowl. Of course, Super Bowl tickets can be notoriously tough to find without a little help. But there is more to a Super Bowl than just the game; there is also memorabilia. There are countless items available from every Super Bowl that help to commemorate the event, giving fans a lasting memory of the game whether they were there or not. That got us thinking about some of the best pieces of Super Bowl memorabilia that all fans should strive to have as their own.
Game Ball
If you visit any proper man cave, there is almost always a football on display. It’s not always going to be a game-used ball, but sometimes it is, making it even more special. Needless to say, the ultimate piece of memorabilia to have displayed in a man cave is a football that was actually used in a Super Bowl. It doesn’t have to be the actual ball that David Tyree pinned against his helmet or the ball Cooper Kupp caught for a game-winning touchdown against the Bengals. But any ball that was used in at least one Super Bowl play is going to be a great addition to any collection.
Game Program
Every Super Bowl since the first one has had an official game program. Most people who attend a Super Bowl probably don’t think to keep their program. But for others, it can become a piece of memorabilia that’s kept forever. This type of collectible can be purchased, so you don’t have to actually go to a Super Bowl to find yourself in possession of a program. The older the Super Bowl, the rarer and more expensive a game program will be to purchase. However, it’s undeniably a great piece of memorabilia for any fan to have.
T-Shirt
If nothing else, everyone who attends a Super Bowl should come home with a t-shirt commemorating that Super Bowl. How else will people know you were at the Super Bowl if you don’t have a t-shirt that says so? There is always an authentic and official Super Bowl t-shirt that usually depicts the helmets of the two teams playing. That’s the shirt that true fans will want to have in their collection. True collectors will prefer to display the shirt rather than wear it. Either way, an official Super Bowl shirt is one of the most common and popular forms of memorabilia, and for the most part, nothing is stopping every fan from getting one for a past Super Bowl that means a lot to them.
Poster/Pennant/Banner
Just like with t-shirts, every Super Bowl has official posters, pennants, and banners. They usually come with the logos of the two teams and the Vince Lombardi trophy. Posters are typically the most popular, although some fans will prefer pennants or banners. Either way, this is a simple piece of memorabilia that any fan can have and would be proud to display.
Anything with an Autograph
For any of the items listed, especially game balls, programs, or posters, Super Bowl memorabilia can be improved drastically by getting the autograph of a player who played in that game. Obviously, the best way to get an autograph is to be in the Super Bowl host city before the game. There are plenty of opportunities that week to buy Super Bowl memorabilia and get it autographed. Many players have autograph sessions, as do retired players in town for the festivities. By getting a player’s autograph, an item can go from being a piece of memorabilia to a collectible. Of course, these types of collectibles can also be purchased after a particular Super Bowl. However, there’s no doubt that the best way to improve Super Bowl memorabilia is with an autograph, and the best time to get that autograph is the week of the game.
Replica Coin
Good luck getting your hands on an actual coin that was used in the coin flip before a Super Bowl. But the NFL does create replicas of that exact coin that fans who love memorabilia can purchase. After all, it’s not just an ordinary quarter that’s flipped during the Super Bowl coin toss. The coin has special logos on it to commemorate the game. Even having a replica of the coin can be a wonderful piece of Super Bowl memorabilia to own.
Framed Ticket
With the growing popularity of mobile tickets, actual paper tickets to the Super Bowl are becoming less and less common. That makes an authentic Super Bowl ticket a hot commodity for any collector. Obviously, if you have an old Super Bowl ticket, it’s best to frame it so that it can remain in good condition and make it easier to display. Of course, if you have one, it’s implied that you were at that game. However, it’s possible for memorabilia fanatics to purchase an authentic ticket from a past Super Bowl. It’s probably not as nice as actually going to see a Super Bowl, but it’s the next best thing.
