About Kendrick Lamar

Kendrick Lamar Tickets

From his early days as a teenager performing as K-Dot to being awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Music, Kendrick Lamar has had one hell of a glow-up. It’s not easy to become one of the most well-known and successful hip-hop artists of his generation, but Kendrick Lamar (born Kendrick Lamar Duckworth) managed to do it, and do it in style.

Early Years in Compton

Born in 1987 and raised in Compton, California, Kendrick first made a name for himself with a masterful mixtape that got him noticed by indie record label Top Dawg Entertainment. In 2010 he released his fourth mixtape, Overly Dedicated, creating some real buzz for this young performer. He followed it up with Section.80, his debut solo album, which skyrocketed his career. The next year, he solidified his rise to fame – while performing at a West Los Angeles concert, Game, Dr. Dre, and Snoop Dogg dubbed him the “New King of the West Coast”.

Filling Big Shoes

“King of the West Coast” wasn’t enough for K-Dot. He filled those shoes and then some, spreading his influence past LA and beyond, eventually making his name known around the world. Kendrick would go on to release album after album over the next few years, going platinum with Good Kid, M.A.A.D City and then wowing audiences by incorporating spoken word, jazz, and soul, and funk elements in his third album, To Pimp a Butterfly, a record that earned him a Grammy.

But that still wasn’t enough for Kendrick. In 2017 he released Damn, another certified platinum record that would go on to win the Pulitzer the following year. It would make history by being the first non-jazz, non-classical record to ever win the award. He also proved his mettle as a producer by curating and producing the soundtrack for Marvel’s Black Panther film, one of the biggest box office smashes of the year.

Don’t Look Back

If the past is any indication, there’s no stopping Kendrick Lamar. No time for looking back – it’s full speed ahead to the future for this brilliant hip-hop artist, performer, and producer. Where is there left to go but even further up?
