About Garth Brooks
Garth Brooks Tickets
Jock turned country-pop star Garth Brooks was every 90’s and early 00’s girl’s celebrity crush. Not only could he sing like a cowboy angel, but he had the looks to match. And it turns out, we have his mother to thank for his commitment to music, which wasn’t always his passion. In high school and early college, Garth was more focused on track & field than making music. It was with his mother’s encouragement (she had a brief music career) and with friend Ty England that Garth gave into his musical destiny. He and Ty began playing at nightclubs, and after he graduated, Brooks set out for Nashville – the holy mecca of country music.
The Early Days
After a brief stint in Nashville, Brooks decided he couldn’t be there without Sandy Mahl, his college girlfriend and soon-to-be wife. Once they were married, he was ready to head back to Nashville to give it a real shot – and Nashville was waiting for him. He was signed to Capitol Records in 1988 and released his debut album a year later. That self-titled album sold well, but not as well as his sophomore album, No Fences. We have that second album to thank for the country classic, “Friends in Low Places," a song so iconic that there’s no way to read the title without singing it in your head.
A Legendary Performer
Garth was one of the first country music artists to turn his musical acts into a real show. He’d not only banter with his guitarist Ty England on stage, but he used pyrotechnics and played to the crowd to really amp up the energy. Each time he releases an album, his shows are just as legendary as the last, and his tours regularly sell out. His success was so great that even after he claimed he was “retired” he managed to book a Las Vegas residency show – which reignited his love for performing music. With all that under his belt, he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2012. His songwriting abilities are unsurpassed to this day.
