About the New England Patriots
New England Patriots Tickets
Without question, there's no NFL team that’s more hated than the New England Patriots. Of course, hatred often is born from jealousy – and the Patriots have a lot to be jealous of. The team has the most Super Bowl appearances in the NFL and are tied for the most wins – six! – acting as the gold standard for the rest of the league.
Not a Born Winner
While the Patriots are one of the best teams in modern football, they had a rough go at the beginning. They played their first season in 1960 and made just one AFL Championship Game in 10 seasons prior to the merger with the NFL. It took until the 1985 season for the Patriots to win their first NFL playoff game, only reaching the playoffs three times between 1971 and 1984.
The Brady-Belichick Era
The Patriots won the AFC in both 1985 and 1996, losing the Super Bowl on both occasions. Until the turn of the century, those two Super Bowl losses were the high points in franchise history. But all of that started to change in 2000 when the team hired Bill Belichick as their new head coach. During the 2001 season, quarterback Drew Bledsoe, who had just signed a 10-year contract with the team, was injured and replaced by Tom Brady. With Brady at quarterback, the Patriots went on to win their first-ever Super Bowl. The rest, as they say, is history.
Brady and Belichick have gone on to become the most successful quarterback-head coach combo in NFL history. After winning their first Super Bowl, the Patriots would go on to win two more in the next three years. Since the 2001 season, New England has only failed to win the AFC East on two occasions, utterly dominating rivals like the Bills, Jets, and Dolphins.
Following a nine-year Super Bowl drought that included two Super Bowl losses to the Giants, the Patriots got back on top in 2014, beating the Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX, kicking off a run of three Super Bowl wins in five years, bringing New England into a tie with the Steelers for the most Super Bowl wins with six.
