Lovett or Leave It
Political TV shows are great. They’re hilarious, they give us a fun way to learn about the news, and they’re a good way to “wind down” after watching a particularly dramatic Netflix show. But the downside is, we don’t always have the time to sit down and watch them. Wouldn’t it be great if someone made a fun political show into an audio-only experience you could listen to in the car or when you’re otherwise unable to stare at a screen? Well, good news, they did! It’s called the Lovett or Leave It podcast and it’s hosted by a former Obama staff member, Jon Lovett.
What’s It About?
Think of this podcast as a mix of The Daily Show, Weekend Update from SNL, and Last Week Tonight. It’s filmed in front of a live audience (want to be in it? We’ve got tickets!) and the host and his guests review the previous weeks’ events. Not that the delivery or information on this show is ever dry, but to keep things exciting, the hosts do quizzes, impressions, and ask the audience their opinion, depending on the day. There’s never a boring episode, especially right now, when politics is such a circus act. Are their ads? Yes – that’s how they’re able to keep this show going, but they’re delivered with humor and sometimes guest commentary.
Guests for Days
Just in the last few episodes, guests have included Pete Buttigieg, comedians Brett Gelman and Rheeqrheeq Chainey, Guy Branum, and Aida Osman, to name a few. If you have an hour or an hour and a half of dead space in your day, where you’d rather be learning instead of listening to radio ads – put on Lovett or Leave It.
