The early 2000s gave us a new couple to coo over and listen to; Matt and Kim, but still, we wanted more! So when ADULT. came out, as a punk-electronica husband and wife group, we were there cheering and waiting. Adam Lee Miller and Nicola Kuperus are just like you and me (if you’re under 40), in that they are constantly worried by the classic millennial anxieties. You can hear that anxiety in their music, which is why so many people relate, and the two became fast favorites.

Not Always a Couple, But Always Musicians

Adam Miller has been in the music business since the mid-90s. He founded his own label, Ersatz Audio, in 1995 to release several personal projects. It wasn’t until he met Nicola in 1998, however, that he realized how powerful their chemistry could be, both in life and through the speakers. They put out their first EP’s just a year after meeting and debuted officially in 2001 with their album, Resurrection.

Adam’s professional presence in the music industry helped the band gain thousands of fans while they were in the EP stages. Those fans bought the official album when it came out, and their success has only skyrocketed from there.

Since their 2001 debut, the couple has put out Anxiety Always, Gimmie Trouble, Why Bother?, The Way Things Fall, Detroit House Guests, This Behavior, and more – in less than 20 years. People love their music, but they also love their story. It’s rare for musical romantic relationships to last this long, and fans are keeping their fingers crossed for the couple’s future.
