About the Las Vegas Raiders
Las Vegas Raiders Tickets
Few pro sports teams have bounced around more than the Las Vegas Raiders. They started out in Oakland, moved to Los Angeles, ended up moving back to Oakland, and now have relocated once again to Las Vegas. Of course, despite their many moves, few teams have a fan base that’s as spirited, intense, and loyal as the Raiders.
Al’s the Man
It’s impossible to talk about the Raiders without giving credit to Al Davis. He was a friend of the team nearly from the beginning, serving as head coach, general manager, and eventually owner of the franchise. It was under his guidance that the Raiders were one of the most renowned teams in the NFL during the '60s, '70s, and early '80s.
The Mad Man
Davis also brought in legendary coach John Madden, who delivered seven division titles for the Raiders in his 10-year tenure. Unfortunately, the Raiders lost most of their championship games, but they finally found a breakthrough when they beat the Vikings in Super Bowl XI.
When Madden left the Raiders to become a broadcaster (and eventually a video game aficionado), Tom Flores took over as head coach and didn’t miss a beat. Under Flores, the Raiders won Super Bowl XV and Super Bowl XVIII, giving them a total of three championship banners.
Not the Same
Despite plenty of history, the 21st century has not been kind fo the Raiders. Following the 2002 season, they lost the Super Bowl to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. At the time, the Bucs were coached by Jon Gruden, who had been Las Vegas’ coach the previous five seasons. To make matters worse, the Raiders have made just one playoff appearance since losing that Super Bowl, going through 10 different head coaches during that time.
The silver lining is that Gruden is back in the fold as the Raider’s head coach. A longtime favorite of Raiders nation, Gruden is the one leading the team currently and is bound to take them to new heights in Vegas and beyond.
