About the Philadelphia Phillies
Philadelphia Phillies Tickets
One of the oldest franchises in the MLB, the Philadelphia Phillies have a hell of a record. With 11 division titles under their belt, five of which were won consecutively from 2007 to 2011, the Fightin’ Phils are the perfect analogy for the city they call home: loud, proud, and not afraid to mix things up.
Early Struggles and Successes
Things got off to a rocky start for the Phillies. Originally known as the Philadelphia Quakers, this ball team wouldn’t earn their first pennant win until 1915. As the newly-formed American League attracted many of the team’s best players, the NL’s Phillies team struggled to gain solid footing
Yet there were some loyal luminaries during this time. Gavvy Cravath setting early home-run records, supported by Grover Cleveland Alexander’s consistent pitching, would put the Phillies in the thick of it for years – though playoffs success would still be fleeting. Even the hard work of Triple Crown-winner and MVP Chuck Klein couldn’t quite pull the Phillies out of the doldrums.
Playing Catch-up
The postwar Phillies still struggled to build a winning team. Some blamed it on ownership dragging its feet in signing African-American players, as they were the last team in the National League to integrate. Yet slowly but surely, Philadelphia built their roster, finally rewarding loyal fans with a World Series win against the Kansas City Royals in 1980 – thanks to no small part to golden boy Pete Rose.
The Phillies continued their hot streak, making it to another World Series in 1983. But they were ultimately unsuccessful in clinching the championship, leading to yet another slump. Another long rebuilding era followed, with the team finally hitting pay dirt in the 2007 season with an NL East division win. This would be a major turning point for the Phils.
Hitting Hard and Fast
Phillies fans got a taste of victory in 2007, and the following year the team went all the way to bag another World Series Win, this time from the Tampa Bay Rays. The big win came thanks in no small part to pitcher Cole Hamels, who was awarded
In 2009 the Phillies made it to the championship yet again, giving them a chance to defend their title against the New York Yankees. While the Yanks walked away with the World Series win, the amazing back-to-back performances of the Phillies won hearts and minds. Today, the Fightin’ Phils are still going strong, aiming to get back on top as soon as they can!
Frequently Asked Questions
Where do the Phillies play?
Since 2004, the Phillies have played at Citizens Bank Park, smack dab in the heart of Philadelphia. It’s just one of several stadiums in the city’s Sports Complex, alongside the Wells Fargo Center, Lincoln Financial Field, and the Xfinity Live theme park and food court.
When do Phillies tickets go on sale?
Phillies tickets go on sale well before the beginning of the MLB’s regular season. In fact, Phillies tickets to games played at Citizen’s Bank Park are available months in advance. In other words, you’ve got lots of time to check the Phillies’ schedule and pick out which games you’d like to see.
Is it better to buy Phillies tickets in advance?
With Phillies tickets being available so far ahead of time, it’s easy to buy Phillies tickets weeks or even months before the game you’re looking to see. Believe it or not, though, you may not even need to plan that far ahead. You can often get great and cheap last-minute tickets to Phillies games by waiting until the very last minute, as ticket sellers almost always drop their prices as game day creeps closer.
What gives when it comes to this price drop? It’s simple economics: unsold tickets won’t make sellers any money. To encourage sales, sellers often discount tickets by a lot, especially when they’ve paid out of pocket for their inventory. With the risk of losing out on money they’ve already spent, they’re even more motivated to sell at any price they can, even if it’s just to not take a loss.
What’s the best way to buy cheap Phillies tickets?
The best way to buy cheap Phillies tickets, or any cheap last-minute sports tickets, is always going to be from websites that connect fans and resellers. These marketplaces have some of the most attractive prices and are often the easiest way to shop for Phillies tickets. Can you buy Brewers tickets at the stadium? Sure — if you don’t mind paying through the nose for seats, sight unseen, at Citizens Bank Park.
