One of the most legendary teen movies of all time is Mean Girls. It’s a cautionary tale of high school, the dangerous of cliques, and how closely the “girl world” relates to the savannahs of Africa – all through the eyes of new girl Cady Heron.

Cady (pronounced Katie) has only ever been homeschooled, so she’s unversed in the rules of high school life. Lucky for her, she gets “adopted” by Damien and Janice, who are willing to educate her on the ways of high school. But when the most popular girls, the mean girls, nicknamed “The Plastics,” show interest in Cady, a plan forms. Her goal is to infiltrate their ranks and find out their secrets – then to tear them down.

That’s not exactly what happens. Things get a little more complicated with the discovery of a “burn book” and a crush on one of “The Plastic’s” ex-boyfriends. You probably know how it ends, but we won’t spoil it here.

An American Classic

Funny lady and SNL veteran Tina Fey wrote the script for Mean Girls, after reading a book called “Queen Bees & Wannabe’s.” She wanted to make the movie funny enough to appeal to teens, but with a clear message. She succeeded in the first part, though the second part is questionable if you’ve been to any high schools lately. What started as a movie in 2004, got promoted to a musical in 2017.

Fey doesn’t consider herself musically talented, but with the help of great musicians, she and her team were able to convert the movie hit to a Broadway show. This is the perfect show to take your best friend to. Or your mom to, or your little cousin who just saw the movie for the first time. And if you go on a Wednesday, it goes without saying that you have to wear pink.
