About Be More Chill
Think back to when you were in high school. If there was a pill that could make you cool and popular, would you have taken it? It’s not a recreational drug – it’s like a medication that helps you choose what to wear, who to talk to, what to say, and where to go so you can be cool.
That pill doesn’t exist in real life, but it does in the musical “Be More Chill.” In the show, the little pill is called SQUIP, which is a nano-computer in medication form. SQUIP hangs out in the decision processing center of your brain, helping you to be more chill (and therefore more popular).
Sounds Like a Perfect Solution, But Is It?
If you said, “of course!” that you would have or currently would take this pill, you’ll empathize with Jeremey Heere, the main character in this musical. He, too, thought this sounded like the answer to all his problems – an easy and perfect way to fit in. But just like every pill, SQUIP has side effects, and they start to weigh on Jeremey. More social than physical, he has to decide how far he’s willing to go to be cool, who he’s ready to leave behind, and which (if any) friendships he’ll break to get where he wants to go.
A Sci-Fi Rock Combo Adventure
Ever felt like you’re the odd one out or though it’d be easier to just fit in? This is the show for you. It has elements of drama but doesn’t lose that edge of comedy that keeps you from getting too deep in your feels. Time-wise, it’s pretty new on the scene. You’ll be able to see some of the original cast members if you see it on Broadway.
