About the Los Angeles Kings

Los Angeles Kings Tickets

One of the first expansion teams to join the NHL, the Los Angeles Kings have been making league history since 1967. Since that time, the Kings have forged a reputation for being one of the most consistently well-performing hockey teams of all time, often being the team to beat to claim the Stanley Cup.

Early Performances

During the early years of pro hockey in Los Angeles, the Kings made it to the playoffs consistently, repping LA in their then-iconic purple and gold jerseys. The purple-and-gold years would last through the early to mid-80s, with some of the game’s most noteworthy players donning Kings’ colors. Among the greatest was goal-scoring powerhouse Marcel Dionne, who gained notoriety for tallying at least 50 goals for five seasons straight.

Joining Dionne in what fans soon came to call the “Triple Crown Line” were two other hockey luminaries, Dave Taylor and Charlie Simmer. Their contributions to the Kings, and to hockey overall, have not gone unrecognized; Los Angeles retired both Dionne and Taylor’s numbers out of respect and admiration for these incredible players.

The Great One Crowned a King

The late 1980s were an even more magical time for the Kings, starting with a sleek new silver and black jersey design. Of course, there was one other small event that happened during this time: a trade that brought a not-so-unknown player from the Edmonton Oilers to Los Angeles. Wayne Gretzky, the Great One himself, arrived on the West Coast and changed the trajectory of the LA Kings forever. In fact, the first six years of Gretzky’s Kings career saw the team reach the playoffs, including a championship showdown with the Canadiens in 1993.

While LA didn’t walk away with the Cup that year either, having the best player in the game on their side thrust the Kings into the limelight. Suddenly, the Lakers weren’t the only pro sports team in Los Angeles attracting A-list fans. With Gretzky popularizing the sport in such a major way, the road was paved for other expansion teams to put down roots in places like Florida, San Jose, and Anaheim.

Rebuilding Efforts

Wayne Gretzky is a tough act to follow. After the Great One moved on to greener pastures, the Kings went through a major rebuilding phase that saw them struggle to reach the playoffs or even rank well in their division. It was a rough patch to be sure, but by 2010 the Kings were on the way to regaining their footing.

Soon, LA had a roster that was shaping up quite nicely. Future monster defenseman Drew Doughty spent time in the Kings jersey prior to his Norris Trophy win, as did Anze Kopitar and Jonathan Quick, defense award winners in their own right.  With the addition of other fantastic players like Justin Williams, Jeff Carter, and Mike Richards, LA bagged its first Stanley Cup in 2012. Another 2014 win cemented their status as a hockey team for the ages — and the legacy continues today.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do the Kings play?

The Los Angeles Kings have played their home games at the Staples Center since it opened in 1999, alongside other headline LA teams like the NBA’s Clippers and Lakers. This indoor arena boasts nearly 20,000 seats, providing loads of room for you and your friends to take in a Kings game. Whenever the venue’s not hosting a pro sports game, any number of concerts or other events are held at the Staples Center throughout the year.

When do Kings tickets go on sale?

The NHL makes Kings tickets available well in advance of every hockey season. Because the league schedules all regular season games long before skates hit the ice, you’ll always have a good idea of when the Kings are in town or on the road. This makes planning to catch a game easy, as there’s never any rush to pick up tickets.

When is the best time to buy cheap Kings tickets?

When we say there’s no rush, we mean it — in fact, the best time to buy Kings tickets is often at the very last minute. If you're worried there won’t be any tickets left by the time you buy, the truth is that this just doesn’t happen, even for a team with as much history as the Kings.

So what gives? The secret is that the majority of NHL tickets are picked up by resellers who get them directly from the league at wholesale prices. This makes them cheap to begin with, but if these tickets don’t sell by the time the game starts, these resellers could lose out on their original investment. So, they'll drop their sale price as low as they can to at least break even, and you get a sweet deal. Win-win.

What’s the best way to buy cheap Kings tickets?

With resellers offering the best prices on Kings tickets, your best bet is to use an online ticket marketplace to get seats for your next game. Otherwise, you might end up overpaying for seats you could get much cheaper elsewhere. The rule holds true for nearly all games, concerts, and other large events.

Why should I choose Gametime over another ticket reseller?

You won’t get the same experience at every ticket marketplace. So, go with the one that provides the best level of service, the lowest fees — and thus the cheapest Kings tickets — and access to a virtual seating chart that shows your seat view before you buy. Ahem, that’s Gametime.

It’s our goal to make sure you never miss a minute of the game. In fact, we guarantee that we’ll get your cheap tickets to you in time for tipoff. Bottom line: we’ve got your back when it comes to getting cheap tickets to Kings games.
