About the Dallas Stars

Dallas Stars Tickets

If you’re looking for proof that pro hockey teams can excel in warm-weather cities, look no further than the Dallas Stars. While results on the ice have been mixed throughout franchise history, the Stars have a devoted fan base that's grown to love a cold-weather sport like hockey, even in the heart of Texas.

From Cold to Hot

The Stars were born when the Minnesota North Stars relocated to Dallas following the 1992-93 season. The move came just three years after the North Stars reached the Stanley Cup playoffs, and the franchise continued its success on the ice after the move. The Stars made the playoffs in seven of their first eight seasons after the move to Dallas.

More importantly, the Stars took home the President’s Trophy in both 1998 and 1999, winning the Stanley Cup for the first time in franchise history in 1999 behind stars like Brett Hull and Mike Modano. The following year, the Stars nearly repeated as champs, losing in the Stanley Cup finals to the Devils.

Cooling Off

In keeping with their name, the Stars were white-hot early in their time in Dallas. Not only did they win two President’s Trophies and a Stanley Cup, but they also won seven division titles in a span of nine seasons. The good times didn’t last forever, though. Starting with the 2008-09 campaign, Dallas failed to reach the playoffs for five consecutive years.

Before winning the Central Division crown in 2016, they went nine years without a division title and seven years without winning a playoff series. The Stars have seen brighter days, but they continue to be in the top half of the NHL in attendance, as the fans haven't given up hope on the glory days returning.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do the Stars play?

The Stars play their home games in the American Airlines Center in downtown Dallas. The arena opened in 2001 as a replacement for the Reunions Arena. Both the Stars and the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks share the American Airlines Center, which has also been used to host the Big 12 Basketball Tournament, the NHL All-Star Game, and countless concerts.

When do Stars tickets go on sale?

Dallas Stars tickets go on sale before the NHL begins its regular season. In fact, cheap Stars tickets to games played at American Airlines Center are available months in advance, as are Dallas Stars for away games. In other words, there’s no rush to check the Stars schedule. Just grab tickets whenever you’ve got the itch.

Is it better to buy Stars tickets in advance?
