About the Anaheim Ducks
Anaheim Ducks Tickets
Not many pro sports teams can claim that they were born out of a movie. In fact, the NHL’s Anaheim Ducks may be the only one. Inspired by the 1992 movie The Mighty Ducks about a rag-tag junior hockey team, the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim were founded in 1993, becoming a real-life spinoff of the movies. Of course, they've moved beyond their fictitious roots and today are simply known as the Anaheim Ducks.
Seeing Stars
While Anaheim isn’t exactly synonymous with Los Angeles, the Ducks have had their fair share of stars over the years. Few players in franchise history have done more to help the Ducks than Paul Kariya. He spent nine seasons with the Mighty Ducks and was a major influence in taking Anaheim from a struggling expansion franchise to a legitimate NHL team.
For his final act in Anaheim during the 2002-03 season, Kariya led the Mighty Ducks to the Stanley Cup Finals. Despite coming up one win short to the Devils, it was a tremendous accomplishment for the Mighty Ducks in their first decade as a franchise.
What’s in a Name?
In 2006, the franchise rebranded from the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim to the Anaheim Ducks – a change that turned out to be the team’s good luck charm. That season, the Ducks won the Pacific Division for the first time and went on to capture the Stanley Cup trophy for the first time, going 16-5 in the playoffs. Ironically, it was the same year the team dropped its teal and green jerseys that mimicked those from the Mighty Ducks film franchise, adopting new colors and a new logo that helped put their movie past behind them.
