About Xcel Energy Center

In Saint Paul, Minnesota can be found Xcel Energy Center, a multi-purpose arena home of the NHL’s Minnesota Wild. The stadium can accommodate 17,954 fans no matter the event. 

The Xcel Energy Center opened in 2000 and was built over the St. Paul Civic Center after it was demolished. In 2001, the Minnesota Wild played their first game at the Xcel Energy Center against the Philadelphia Flyers. The game ended in a tie, but on October 18, 2001, the Minnesota Wild finally had their first win here by playing against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

In 2004, the Xcel Energy Center hosted the Vote for Change Tour which brought several musical talents to play at the venue. Additionally, In 2008, the Republican National Convention was held here.

Over the years, the arena has hosted many musical performers such as R.E.M, Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young, as well as WNBA games like the Minnesota Lynx game in 2016 while their home arena was undergoing renovations. The Minnesota Swarm from the National Lacrosse League also played here from 2005 until 2015 when they left for Georgia. Xcel Energy Center is the first and only NHL building within the U.S to be certified.
