About Wrigley Field

Wrigley Field

It's possible that no stadium in all of pro sports is more iconic than Wrigley Field, the home of the Chicago Cubs. It’s the second oldest stadium in the majors – behind only Fenway Park – having been around since 1914 in a mostly residential area on the north side of Chicago. The field is perhaps best known for the ivy-covered outfield walls and crazy wind patterns that can have an impact on games, not to mention the history that has taken place inside its walls.

Best Places to Sit at Wrigley Field

For Wrigley Field sporting events, there may be no better place to sit than the famous bleachers. At least, that’s what the locals will tell you, as it’s frequented by the most passionate Cubs fans. The only caveat is that it puts you directly under the sun during day games. If you want to be close to the action and don't mind spending some cash, seats in the 10-level and 100-level are a great option. However, if you’re looking for value or some of the cheapest Cubs tickets, the 400-level at Wrigley Field is the place to sit. You probably won’t be catching a fly ball, but you’ll have a great view of the entire stadium.

Tips for Visiting Wrigley Field

As mentioned, Wrigley Field is in the middle of a residential area, so parking is at a premium. If at all possible, take public transportation in order to avoid paying outrageous prices for parking or settling for a spot far from the stadium. The Addison stop on the Red Line of the Chicago Transit Authority will leave you less than two blocks from the stadium.

Keep in mind that the Cubs play mostly day games. After all, Wrigley Field was the last stadium to get lights so they could play night games. Late in the afternoon, certain areas of the stands will be in the shade. However, it’s a sun-drenched stadium in the middle of the day, so bring sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, and anything else you need to protect yourself from the sun, especially if you sit in the bleachers where there's no coverage.

Food to Try at Wrigley Field

If you attend Wrigley Field events, it’s best to at least sample some of the treats you can only get inside the stadium. For starters, there are the Wrigley House Chips, which are homemade chips served with ranch and Buffalo sauce. We're also fans of the Beer Can Chicken Sandwich, which is delicious (even if the Wrigley vendors don’t actually prepare the chicken by putting a beer can inside it). Finally, fans can feast on either regular hot dogs or the Southwest Fiesta Specialty Hot Dog, which is a beef dog with tortilla strips, pickled peppers, and pico de gallo. Call us purists, but we'll go for a good old-fashioned Chicago-style dog any day.
