About PNC Arena

PNC Arena

There’s no lack of great sports in North Carolina, but the best place to see them is absolutely the PNC Arena in Raleigh. From 1999 onward it’s been the premier venue for Mid-Atlantic sports and music and this isn’t changing anytime soon. Here’s what you need to know about this iconic indoor multi-use venue.

The History of the PNC Arena

The PNC Arena might be best known as the home of the Hurricanes today, but it was originally the brainchild of NC State Wolfpack coach Jim Valvano for a new basketball venue for the college back in the 1980s. Over more than a decade of planning for this venue, though, the plan morphed into the multi-use arena (and pro hockey venue) that it is known for today.

The Hurricanes call the PNC Arena home, but it’s not just a hockey rink. The Wolfpack uses the venue for its home games as well, showcasing that Jim Valvano had some real foresight in calling for a new place for the college to hold its basketball games, making PNC Arena sports events great for anyone who loves both collegiate and pro-level sports.

That’s not all, though – Raleigh locals love it when PNC Arena concerts come to town, as the prime location and ample space of this venue mean close to 20,000 adoring fans attending music acts on tour. Lady Gaga, Elton John, Celine Dion, Taylor Swift, Eric Clapton, Keith Urban, and countless other superstars have played sell-out crowds at this great indoor arena.

What’s so great about PNC Arena events?

PNC Arena events are great thanks to Raleigh’s premier indoor venue. It’s been renovated a number of times over the years to keep it modern and to keep concert and sports event attendees in comfort. Covered tailgating sections, a rooftop bar and restaurant, a 360-degree video board, and all sorts of improvements are constantly being added to the arena both inside and out. No matter if you’re catching the Hurricanes play, watching a concert, taking in a basketball game, or any other event, you’re gonna enjoy your time at the PNC Arena.
