About Scottsdale Stadium
Scottsdale Stadium
Scottsdale Stadium, a spring training venue located in the suburbs of Phoenix, Arizona, has a long history of hosting Major League Baseball teams. In fact, it’s both one of the oldest and one of the newest such outdoor ballfields in what’s come to be known as the Cactus League, which is the collection of spring training facilities dotting the Phoenix landscape. This 12,000-seat baseball diamond has been leading the charge in providing the best spring training facilities the Southwest has to offer!
The History of Scottsdale Stadium
The modern Scottsdale Stadium, standing proudly today on Osborn Road, was built in 1992, but that’s not where this story begins. It was built to replace the old Scottsdale Stadium, which was built in 1956 on the same spot for the same purpose, and had been the home of MLB spring training for teams such as the Orioles, the Red Sox, the Cubs, and the Oakland A’s in turn from its opening through 1983. Now, the Giants play their spring training games there and have done so both at the old venue and the newly constructed one since 1984.
What Makes Scottsdale Stadium Events So Special?
Scottsdale Stadium is the granddaddy of the Cactus League system, making it the master cog in the wheel that has been the amazing and entertaining spring training capital of the United States. If you’re in Arizona during the winter, you need to spend some time in Phoenix to take in a few spring training games — and if you’re doing that, you need to make sure you attend at least one at Scottsdale Stadium where it all started.
