About Fertitta Center

Fertitta Center

Smack dab in the middle of Houston, Texas, as part of the University of Houston’s massive school campus, the 7,100-seat multi-purpose indoor arena that is the Fertitta Center acts as a beacon for sports and other events throughout the city. Long a local landmark but featuring a brand-new name and look after a recent renovation, this sports venue is ready for anything! Are you?

History of the Fertitta Center

Originally built in the 1960s, the Fertitta Center opened on December 1st, 1969, under the name of the Hofheinz Pavilion. The first purpose-built arena for the University of Houston, it was meant to provide a home for the university’s collegiate athletics teams, which had been using local high school fields and gyms up until then.

When it first opened, the venue was capable of holding 10,000 screaming fans, a figure that would stay that way until a 1998 renovation saw that number drop to accommodate better amenities for fans and teams alike. Another major reno in 2016 reduced its capacity even further to its current number and updated the arena, now named the Fertitta Center, to fit in with the needs of the modern fan.
