About the Houston Texans

Houston Texans Tickets

Amongst NFL teams, the Houston Texans are the new kids on the block. They're the league’s most recent expansion franchise, starting play in 2002 and helping to fill the vacancy left in Houston when the Oilers moved to Tennessee and became the Titans. Since they got their start, the Texans have done their best to establish rivalries and turn themselves into an important part of the NFL fabric.

Dom Bombs

The Texans chose Dom Capers to be their first-ever head coach. After Capers led the Panthers to a 12-4 record in their second year, he seemed like a perfect fit to lead the Texans. Unfortunately, lightning didn't strike twice with Capers as head coach of an expansion team. Despite beating the in-state rival Cowboys in their very first game, the Texans struggled early in their history, going 18-46 in their first four seasons under Capers.

Slow and Steady

Even after Capers was let go, progress was slow for the Texans. Gary Kubiak took over in 2006, and it was four years before he led the Texans to their first winning season in franchise history. It wasn't until his sixth season in Houston until he managed to take the team to the playoffs.

But the team’s patience with Kubiak paid off. The Texans won division titles in both 2011 and 2012, winning a playoff game on both occasions. Things turned south for Kubiak quickly in 2013, but Bill O’Brien was able to pick up the torch and build on Kubiak’s success. From 2015 to 2018, the Texans won three more division titles, giving them five division crowns in eight seasons and establishing themselves as the team to beat in the AFC South moving forward.
